Mercedes-Benz GLE Facelift Overview
Seeking to replace its M / ML Class of SUVs, Mercedes Benz of Germany plans to introduce the GLE Facelift SUV in India, which is basically an update of the ML Class. The new SUV will carry engines of the existing M Class in form of a 2.2 litre (GLE 250d trim) and a 3.0 litre V6 (GLE 350d trim) diesel run powertrains. Although the displacements are going to remain the same (2143cc and 2987cc), the fuel efficiency is going to be enhanced thanks to a 9 speed automatic transmission system instead of the existing 7 speed one. The refurbishment includes cosmetic changes to the exterior and addition of a few features inside the cabin. The front facade gets a protruding radiator grille with chrome surround and slats, besides a restyled bumper. The two parallel slats display the Merc signage – the three pointed star, at the centre.
Two wraparound headlamps on either side of the grill carry LED lamps (optional) and a string of daytime running lights. The sides and rear, though carry forward the design of the erstwhile model, a few tweaks here and there such as LED tail lamps and dual exhausts have been applied to make them look chic. However, three wheel rim sizes have made their presence in the form of 18, 19 and 20 inches.
The cabin is resplendent with a new look, courtesy a new 3 spoke steering wheel with mounted controls, a new 7 inches free standing touchscreen based infotainment display, chiselled and rounded AC vents encased within silver surrounds, and a glossy black dashboard. The modish cabin has the entire wherewithal to provide luxurious as well as comfortable journey. Leatherette seats with a rear centre arm rest, head restraints and side arm rests with controlling buttons exemplify the cool quotient of the cabin.
A slew of comfort features include a memory package, a new generation online telematics, a parking camera with 360 degree view, a 3 zone climate control system, and an advanced drivetronics through which the driver can choose any of the five drive modes – comfort, sport, slippery, individual and off-road. The vehicle is also home to several state of the art safety measures like an airmatic package with air suspension, a 4matic permanent all wheel drive system, downhill speed regulation, ABS, EBD, BA, ESP with curve dynamic assist, crosswind assist, attention assist, and 6 airbags among others.
Mercedes GLE Facelift has competition in the form of BMW X3, Audi Q5/Q7, Land Rover Discovery Sport, and Volvo XC 90.
